Using Beyond Compare with Fiddler

by EricSB 10. January 2011 22:11

Introduction

Two tools that should be in every developer’s arsenal are Fiddler and Beyond Compare.

To configure Fiddler to use Beyond compare you need to perform some work in the registry and when tinkering with the registry, you do back up the key you’re changing, right?

After you back up the registry there are five steps to getting all the Beyond Compare goodness with Fiddler, oh yeah!  Let’s get started.

  • Close Fiddler
  • Run RegEdit
  • Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Fiddler2
  • Add a new "String" entry and call it "CompareTool":

RegEditForBCAndFiddler2

  • Set the new registry value to the path of Beyond Compare executable, for example: BCompare.EXE.

The next time you start Fiddler, try comparing two sessions and exclaim: “Beyond Compare!”

Hope this helps and thanks for reading.
