Microsoft put together a really nice feature of Windows that I found myself using recently that worked very well. There was an issue on my Wife’s laptop and it turns out some recent driver update basically broke her wireless adapter.
After manually tinkering with this issue for a bit I decided to get off the couch and hook the computer up so that I could let Windows 7 fix the issue for me.
The solution windows suggested was to download driver updates. There was a link that said: “Download drivers from the Dell website.” My wife’s laptop obviously is a Dell and she really likes it a lot!
And while I was at it I was also informed that there were updates for other devices on the system (whoops, I should probably either show my wife how to do it or do it more often myself to make it easier for her.) as well. I applied all of them and rebooted for safe measure even though the wireless adapter was in the process of connecting.
After a reboot, her machine came back up and it re-connected to the router and all was well with the world.
I really enjoy the ease of which this feature makes fixing problems and maintaining drivers on your system! The main reason for this post was to thank those behind that feature that ensure the links stay accurate and working. I know this is a thankless task, but it makes my life easier and I wanted to say thank you. :)
And while I’m at it Windows 7 rocks!
