Anyone who has been following this blog for a while will likely recall my confession of being addicted to Dragon Age: Origins. When I learned of this game I picked it up and played it that night. I found myself hopelessly addicted to it and I loved every minute of it. I wound up beating the game 3 times and I recently started a rogue but I also wanted to work on BingPaper to complete the few outstanding work items I had pending that would enabled me to branch the dev branch and create the Beta release!
Now that the beta is out I’ve started digging into DA:A and I’m just over 8 hours into the game so far and I’m really loving it! The game has you killing Darkspawn very quickly into it and the action, thus far, has not ended.
There is a nice surprise there for anyone who’s played Origins they’ll know what I mean when I say you meet a familiar face. :)
So far I’m enjoying the expansion playing as my mage. I’m very happy with how soon in the game you are able to unlock your specializations which gives you the ability to play around with them and grow into them as you progress though the game.
I also get the impression that BioWare is a company that actually listens to the community surrounding their games. This is a rare find these days and it’s truly refreshing because I can see the BioWare implementation/port/ rendition of ideas people in the community put together as a mod for origins and it now resides in Awakening!
I LOVE the fact that there is now a built in re-specialization capability, thanks guys! And I was extremely pleased to see the status of “Dead” added to the tactics so that you could code your cleric to resurrect any dead allies in the middle of intense and long combat sessions.
All in all I give Awakening two thumbs up and I highly recommend you pick it up. If you enjoyed Origins, you're sure to enjoy Origins Awakening. And the other cool thing: BioWare imports your character (Or you can use the advanced button to import from a specific save game… nice touch!) which then rolls any decisions you made into the new game and it alters Awakening.
A big congrats to the Dragon Age team for another great game! Also I look forward to some more details on the teaser you put in the box. In the game box included a white piece of paper, with the standard blood red dragon and nothing more than a date. No indication on what it is, but I’m guessing it’s another DA expansion and I’m already anxious!
Here’s to hoping the Dragon Age team gives me my wishes and adds a “Necromancer” specialization this time around! More dots and lots of cool minions or pets would just rock, please! :)
